Chromebook Dashboard Management: Wish List Part 1

Our Chromebooks journey is beginning to feel "real" as we are getting more shipments. The Dashboard Management Console ($30/device fee) is great and they've already added a lot more in the past year... buttt here is my Wish List for the console that I hope come soon.

I've categorized the wishes into where I figured they would go.

Chrome OS/User Settings or Device Settings

  1. The ability to globally set device's Timezones - this has to be an easy add, right? - as of 3/26/2013
  2. The ability to set the amount of time for the "lock screen" on idle setting.
  3. The ability to add Bookmarks to the Bookmark Toolbar (Ex: a bookmark folder labeled "Elementary Resources")
  4. Ability to lock the wallpaper (submitted by no fun @thanlindley jk! you're really fun!)

Chrome OS/Networks

  1. The ability to "force" a WIFI network. Ex: student logs in for the first time and needs to pick GUEST WIFI to enroll the device. We have the school's main WIFI set up in our Dashboard but obviously it doesn't pick that up BEFORE the device is enrolled. So, the device will choose the GUEST WIFI over the WIFI we want them to use. Yes, the student can select the main WIFI after enrolling but many won't realize they need to do that.

Chrome OS/Applications

  1. Have the ability to make more "Chrome Web Store" page sections. It's awesome that we can default the page to highlight "Your Domain's recommenced apps" but it would be even more awesome if we could make "Elementary Recommended Apps" or "Senior Project Recommended Apps". I'm imagining that these sections can be dynamic. always changing and fun for users to check out.

 Devices/Chrome OS

  1. Instead of having the original user who enrolled the device listed in the "user" column, display the user who is currently logged in or last logged in. This is currently my #1 wish. I've found that even if I wipe the machine, it still lists the very, very first user who enrolled it. This has to get better.
  2. Device browser history (added by @JasenWebb). And I would go even further with device history like: logging of users who have logged into that device, IPs that device connected to, geolocation information, uptime, error logs.
  3. The ability to import CSV files which contain information like: asset tag #s, building assignments, MAC address, etc. for devices. Right now, you can only click on a serial number in "Devices" and then click on "edit"  to manually enter this information in. On the main "Devices" page you should be able to import and mass upload/change via the "more actions" drop down. (added by @thanlindley)
  4.  Dynamic groups - the ability to filter and group devices that meet certain criteria. Ex: a list of devices that have not had a sync for 3 weeks, put into a group and then an action could be done of those devices. (added by @thanlindley)
  5. The ability to remove devices that are no longer in your district's system.
  6. In the Location column (or add a new column) display the current IP address (or last) that Chromebook was connected to.

I know there are a few more I'm missing that I've thought of before, but I've decided this is going to be an on going wish list :) Hopefully many of these items will get crossed out soon. The ones in bold are our my top wishes. Comment or tweet me @mebenson with your wishes! Oh, and if any of the items are actually already possible, please let me know!
